If you want to change anything, you need to first understand what you believe. Take anything in your life and write out what you really, firmly believe.
For example, you might really believe that you are a shy person. This belief might be such a part of you that it appears to be a fact (like “1 + 2 = 3”). But really, it’s JUST a belief and it might be doing more harm than good. A person who believes they are really shy, might have tons of limiting beliefs, like that they can’t go to a party alone or go out on a date.
I can tell you, however, that even shy people can stand in front of a crowd and give a speech and get married and even be the president. Shy people can make small talk and host parties and have fun. It all depends on what the person believes about their abilities. Although there are some chemical things going on in the brain that can make it easier for some people than others, don’t limit yourself. Don’t let your beliefs become excuses.
I know this is easier said than done, but you can become a greater version of yourself by changing those limiting beliefs and thoughts. It won’t happen overnight, but with some awareness and change in thought patterns, you can go from thinking the world is collapsing on you to believing it is opening up and blooming. Give yourself some time—think about who you want to be at this time next year and realize you do have the ability to grow.
Look at your beliefs and ask yourself: is this really serving me? If the answer is “no,” or “probably not,” consider testing out a new belief. Know that you can change anything. There really isn’t anything that is impossible.
