It’s often easier to love others than to love yourself. Many of us (especially women) are givers and we shower love to our families and loved ones, while giving only scraps to ourselves. It’s no wonder why so many of us feel depleted at the end of the day. It’s as if our love tanks are empty!
To turn this around, it’s critical to find ways to love yourself and make yourself feel special. Then, when you give to others from this place of self-love, it is a richer experience. Here are some ways to love yourself more:
- Believe in yourself and make the decision to love you. Don’t worry about what that looks like just yet—simply take a stand for yourself.
- Think about what makes you unique. It you can do this honestly, you’ll realize that much of what makes you unique is your flaws. Learning to accept and like yourself with your imperfections goes a long way.
- Say kind words to the person you see in the mirror. In fact, say kind words to yourself and show compassion as often as possible.
- Relish in what makes you tick. Many people behave in response to pleasing others or worrying what they might think, rather than being true to themselves. However, there is a sense of freedom in embodying the real, authentic you.
- Take time out to check in with how you really feel. Are you in tune with your needs and desires?
- Stop listening to the critical voices in your head.
- Cheer yourself on. Take a moment to give yourself thanks and acknowledgment.
- Go after your dreams. Start with just a small step.
- Practice relaxing and meditation, even if it’s just for a few minutes a day.
- It’s great to do things that pamper yourself like pedicures and massages too, but remember that love arises from within. Read books, take classes, and attend seminars that cultivate a sense of love for you.
